# Alternative account detected

> Your connection or device matched another account that already verified in this server.

> Alternative account detected

The server uses alt account detection. When you verified, your internet connection, browser, or device matched another account that had already verified **in this server**, so AuthenticateMe treated your account as an alternative account.

## Why it happens

* You have another Discord account that verified in this server, even an old or deleted one.
* Someone else in your home, school, or workplace verified in this server on the same connection or device.
* You verified on a shared network, such as public Wi-Fi.

## What to do

Only the server's staff can decide whether to let you in. Contact them, explain your situation, and they can verify you themselves or send you a [bypass link](https://docs.authenticateme.xyz/moderation/bypasses.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> AuthenticateMe doesn't change or remove records to get around a server's alt detection. Each server's staff decide who they let in.
