# Reset verification

> Clear a member's verification so they have to verify again, or give them back their attempts.

Resetting a member removes their verification in your server and deletes their verification records there. They have to verify again to get back in. It's also how you give a member who hit [Max Verifications](https://docs.authenticateme.xyz/settings/account.md#max-verifications) a fresh set of attempts.

## Reset a member

**Slash command**

Run `/reset-user user:@member`, or paste their user ID. This works for people who already left the server too.

**App**

Right-click the member, or tap their profile on mobile, then choose **Apps → Reset**.

AuthenticateMe then does the following.

* Deletes the member's verification records in your server, which also resets their failed attempts.
* Removes the Verified Role, and any role a failed check gave them, such as the Max Verifications role.
* Gives them the Unverified Role, if you use one.
* With [Auto DM](https://docs.authenticateme.xyz/settings/core.md#auto-dm) on, tells them by DM that staff reset their verification and where to verify again. If their DMs are closed and [Notify to open DMs](https://docs.authenticateme.xyz/settings/core.md#notify-to-open-dms) is on, they're pinged in the verification channel instead.
* Posts a "Verification reset" entry to your General Logs.

The reply tells you whether the member was notified. You need **Manage Roles** by default.

> [!NOTE]
>
> A reset only affects your server. A member's verification in other servers that use AuthenticateMe stays as it is.
